Summit Christian Academy named fifth grade teacher Mrs. Michelle Bacon as SCA’s 2021 Teacher of the Year during a school-wide assembly this week.

Parents, students, and staff had the opportunity to nominate a teacher who has shown excellence in fulfilling SCA’s mission to “inspire students to achieve their God-given potential through excellent academics and Christian training in a compassionate environment.”

Thirty-eight teachers were nominated, from which five finalists were selected. Finalists included fifth grade teacher Mrs. Michelle Bacon, kindergarten teacher Mrs. Karen Davis, secondary Bible and Chinese teacher Mr. Michael Mayor, secondary science teacher Mr. Tim Schwab, and secondary Bible teacher Mr. Wayne Stam.

“I take great pleasure in reading the comments our students and parents make about their SCA teachers every year,” shared SCA Head of School Linda Harrleson. “Our school is blessed with teachers who bring out the best in students, and both the parents and students are so appreciative of their efforts.”

Mrs. Bacon joined the SCA faculty in 2000. She and her husband Dennis have two children — Nathan and Rachel — who attended and graduated from SCA. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Special Education from Harding University.

Mrs. Bacon was presented with a plaque, an SCA designated parking space, and a monetary award. As SCA’s Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Bacon is also a candidate for the Great Plains Alliance of Christian Schools (GPACS) Teacher of the Year. The GPACS Teacher of the Year will be announced in January, 2022.
