In a statement sent to Link 2 Lee's Summit, Monte Helm announced he was halting his campaign for one of two seats on the Lee's Summit R-7 School District Board of Education.

Helm, whose name will remain on the ballot, said instead of campaigning for the seat he will throw his support behind two other candidates he believes will best serve the community.

"After careful consideration, I have decided to withdraw from actively campaigning for the upcoming school board election, he said. "A number of the candidates share my vision of a progressive school board that advocates for all of the teachers and students in our district. I believe that Ryan (Murdock) and Rodrick (Sparks) are excellent candidates that I fully support and encourage others to also support."
