NICK: The 2020-2021 Lee’s Summit West High School volleyball team received national recognition for its team grade-point average. With a 3.9867 GPA, the team was among just 100 girls high school teams nationwide to earn the Team Academic Honor Roll award from the American Volleyball Coaches Association. Check out our web site for more details.

LIESL: The Lee’s Summit R-7 School District is keeping updated news and notes on this academic year’s safe-return and COVID-19 protocols available on its web site. Among the differences this coming year will be the quarantining protocols if a student is exposed. Unlike last year, fully vaccinated individuals do not need to quarantine, as long as they monitor symptoms for 14 days following the known exposure. Visit for full details.

NICK: Curious about what the coming school year will look like? Join Jason Norbury and I for this Wednesday’s episode of the Lee’s Summit Town Hall podcast as we welcome superintendent Dr. David Buck back to the show to talk about his second year in Lee’s Summit and what students and families can expect. If you have questions for Dr. Buck, let us know at

LIESL: The Missouri Innovation Campus, a partnership between the University of Central Missouri and the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District is celebrating its 10th year of creating quality internship opportunities for students. The unique and nationally recognized program uses the program to help businesses connect with a trained workforce while also helping to reduce college costs and debt for students. Check out for more details.

NICK: Are you a business owner or aspiring entrepreneur and looking for inspiration? Join me in a special event from Velocity Lee’s Summit at 4 p.m. this Thursday at Bridge Space in downtown for a pair of inspirational stories from two local business women who have expanded their businesses in the past year. I’ll be talking with my co-host Liesl Hays, an author and owner of The Historic Browning Guest House, and Jane Monroe, owner of Embrace the Grape, a popular beverage catering company. In addition to my questions, the audience will have opportunities to ask their own questions and meet these two successful entrepreneurs.
