NICK: It’s graduation week for the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District. As with last year, this year’s graduation ceremonies for Lee’s Summit, Lee’s Summit North and Lee’s Summit West high schools were planned with social distancing mandates in mind and will be held at Children’s Mercy Park in Wyandotte County, Kansas. The ceremonies will also be available for online viewing through the district’s YouTube channel. All three events are set for this Saturday, May 22 with LSHS at 3 p.m., North at 5:30 p.m. and West at 8 p.m. Visit Link2LeesSummit.com for details and links to view online.

LIESL: In other news from the LSR7 School District, Lee’s Summit West debate teacher Matt Good has been named the district’s Teacher of the Year. Good is a 21-year veteran of teaching and has been in the district for nine years. Check out our web site for more on Mr. Good.

NICK: Several students at Summit Christian Academy captured gold medals at this year’s MIssouri State High School Activities Association State Music Festival. Among the winners was SCA senior Benjamin Schwab, who earned gold for his cello solo. Go toLink2LeesSummit.com for a full list of all the SCA gold medal winners.

LIESL: One of the toughest tasks for every entrepreneur is honing their pitch and effectively communicating their business. Velocity Lee’s Summit is offering a special hybrid event at 5 p.m. this Thursday. In-person attendees can join Velocity board member and entrepreneur Keri Lauderdale Olson for a presentation on perfecting your elevator pitch. The event is also available virtually.
