NICK: Hello and welcome to Lee’s Summit Town Hall and your Monday News Link presented by the Ask Cathy of Keller Williams Realty and Budget Blinds of Lee’s Summit. I am Nick Parker and with me is the Historic Browning’s Liesl Hays.
LIESL: Each week, we'll take a few minutes to give you the news, happenings, and events around Lee's Summit.
NICK: We don’t often get the opportunity to report local high schools sports, but there’s been a flurry of activity this past few weeks as the fall sports seasons begin drawing to a close and we want to make sure to give some congratulations and good on yas from Link 2 Lee’s Summit and the Lee’s Summit Town Hall podcast. Let’s start with the Lee’s Summit West softball team, who won the MSHSAA Class 5 State Championship with a 6-5 win over Francis Howell Central in the title game. Since some of our neighborhoods cross over, we should also note Blue Springs South finished third in the Class 5 championships.
LIESL: In volleyball action, West also advanced to the championship round of the State tournament, finishing in second place after falling to Cor Jesu Academy in the title match. The Titans advanced to the final round with a semi-final victory over Rock Bridge... The Blue Springs South girls cross country team claimed top honors in the girls state cross country championships.
NICK: In football action, three Lee’s Summit schools are still alive in the championship brackets. St. Michael the Archangel has advanced to the quarterfinal round of the Class 2 bracket and will take on Richmond after a 48-7 win over Lawson on Friday night. The Guardians will travel to Richmond for this contest. In the Class 3 bracket, Summit Christian Academy also advances to the quarterfinal round after a 23-18 win over Center on Friday. The Eagles will face Pleasant Hill this week at SCA. In Class 6, the Lee’s Summit North squad topped Raymore-Peculiar 21-14 on Friday to move on to a quarterfinal tilt with Joplin this Friday night at North.
LIESL: In other activities news from our local high schools, two local speech and debate teams have earned national recognition. The National Speech & Debate Association ranked Lee’s Summit West and Lee’s Summit North’s teams No. 39 and 99 respectively in a ranking of more than 3,000 programs.
NICK: Congratulations to all of these students, teachers and everyone associated with the programs. Good on Ya… Be sure to follow Link 2 Lee’s Summit and the Lee’s Summit Town Hall podcast for all the news, notes and conversations from our community.
