As we move into the first full week of the new year, the Lee's Summit City Council is set for its first regular session of 2021 and the Lee's Summit R-7 Board of Education will hold a special session this week.

Both meetings are scheduled for Tuesday and will be available to view online. City Council will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday and a link to view the live meeting can be found here. The special session of the Board of Education will begin at 5 p.m. Tuesday and can be viewed on the district's YouTube Channel.

On the agenda for the Board of Education is a discussion about the learning mode for district students in preK through sixth grade. When the district initially made the decision to move all students into virtual mode, the board opted to revisit the early-childhood and elementary grades on Jan. 5. The Board will discuss status of grades 7-12 in its regularly scheduled meeting on Jan. 14.

In other news from the District, the filing period for April's Board of Education election runs through Jan. 19. Two seats are available for this election. Filing began, Dec. 22 and was put on hold during the District's winter break, and re-opened on Monday. As of this posting, five people had filed for the election: Christine Bushyhead, Ryan Murdock, Michele Andrea Surber, Rodrick King Sparks and Monte L. Helm.

Tuesday's City Council agenda, which can be viewed here, contains discussion of a change to the City's policy on changing street names; ballot language for the City's debt levy, as well as the second reading of changes to the City's public service agreements with the Lee's Summit Chamber, Downtown Lee's Summit Main Street, the Economic Development Council and Velocity Lee's Summit.
