Your Monday NewsLink for the week of August 8, 2020. This week's news comes from Wings 4 Water, Lee's Summit Chilifest, Summit Theatre Group, Bridge Space and Pro Deo Youth Center.

NICK: Hello and welcome to Lee’s Summit Town Hall and your Monday News Link presented by Ask Cathy of Keller Williams Realty and Budget Blinds of Lee’s Summit. I am Nick Parker. And, with me as she is each and every week, Liesl Hays.

LIESL: Each week, we'll take a few minutes to give you the news, happenings, and events around Lee's Summit.

NICK: A pair of big community events are quickly approaching. The first is the annual Wings 4 Water charity event raising money to provide water in areas of need both locally and around the world. The annual wings cooking competition is slated for September 8 at Paragon Star. The event is free to attend. Attendees can vote for their favorites with donations to the cause. If you’d like to register as an attendee, a competitor or a sponsor, visit www.w4wkc.org. Event organizer and founder, Chris Turney, will join the Town Hall podcast on August 17 to preview this popular night of wings.

LIESL: Another popular cooking event is coming just a month after this one. The 17th annual Chilifest is set for October 15th in the parking lot at Bridge Space in downtown Lee’s Summit. All proceeds from the event benefit Coldwater of Lee’s Summit, Developing Potential, Inc. and the Lee’s Summit Jazz Orchestra. Visit the Bridge Space web site to register your team.

NICK: One of Lee’s Summit’s many arts organizations has reason to celebrate this month. Summit Theatre Group is celebrating its 10th year and has come up with several ways for the community to participate in the reverie. First, the group has planned a two-night gala event on August 19 and 20 featuring performances of music and song from every show over the course of the past decade. And second, the troupe has expanded its season giving audiences more shows and more opportunities to be a part of the growing organization. You can learn more about Summit Theatre Group, it’s anniversary celebration and plans for the future by listening to last week’s episode of the Town Hall podcast

LIESL: Our popular new video series, I Am Lee’s Summit, continues this Tuesday with host Cathy Counti sitting down with Pro Deo Youth Center’s Elaine Metcalf. In this series, Cathy is out to meet as many of the local business and community leaders as she can to help them tell their stories of Lee’s Summit and why they choose to call it home. You can find the I Am Lee’s Summit series at Link2LeesSummit.com.

NICK: Be sure to follow Link 2 Lee’s Summit and the Lee’s Summit Town Hall podcast for all the news, notes and conversations from our community.
