NICK: Hello and welcome to Lee’s Summit Town Hall and your Monday News Link presented by Ask Cathy of Keller Williams Realty and Budget Blinds of Lee’s Summit. I am Nick Parker. And, with me as she is each and every week, Liesl Hays.

LIESL: Each week, we'll take a few minutes to give you the news, happenings, and events around Lee's Summit.

NICK: Tuesday marks the return of school for the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District. Among the many firsts will be the opening of the district’s fourth middle school — East Trails. The Blue Springs school district, which comprises some of Lee’s Summit, begins its year on Wednesday. St. Michael the Archangel and Summit Christian Academy, both located in Lee’s Summit began last week.

LIESL: Dr. Marc Taormina, a specialist in Gastroenterology and owner of Midwest GI Health, has been named President of the Missouri Board of Registration for the Healing Arts, the first physician from Lee’s Summit to take the role. He was first appointed to the state board by Governor Mike Parson in 2019. You can read the full story at

NICK: Are you interested in joining the nursing profession? Mark your calendar for UCM School of Nursing’s Sept. 27 open house. The University of Central Missouri’s School of Nursing will host an open house from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at the Missouri Innovation Campus. LIESL: Incoming seniors from Summit Christian Academy recently completed a mission trip in Memphis, Tenn. The mission trip is a long-standing tradition at the school. As seniors prepare to go beyond the campus of SCA after graduation, the senior mission trip is an opportunity to build class leadership, unity, spiritual and personal leadership, and help a community in need. NICK: Be sure to make your plans this Friday to attend the final Downtown Lee’s Summit Fourth Friday Art Walk of the season. The monthly summer event showcases local artists and live music performances that you can experience inside participating shops and restaurants.
